The opening reception was a moving tribute, filled with neighbors and friends who gathered to honor Edith’s memory. The gallery walls were adorned not just with her art, but with heartfelt personal notes, anecdotes, and remembrances shared by Barbara Swann, Dorothy Hoskins, Karen Anderson, and Nadia Makuc.
Their stories painted a portrait of a woman whose generosity knew no bounds. They spoke of the many ways Edith enriched Monterey—from her quiet advocacy for those who had been bullied to her commitment to the future of our youth through scholarships for Monterey students. Her creative touch is everywhere we look, from the very design of our Town Seal to the generous donation of her farmhouse, which we are proud to call the Monterey Community Center today.
The exhibit, “Edith Wilson: A Legacy of Art and Community,” features a stunning selection of her oil paintings. It is a wonderful tribute to a woman who contributed so much to the heart of our town, and we invite everyone to come experience it for themselves.
The collection will remain on display at the Knox Gallery in the library through April 18. We hope you’ll take a moment to visit, reflect on Edith’s incredible contributions, and enjoy the beauty she left behind.
